Exploring Light, Shadows, and Fun Adventures in Second Grade
Hello, dear readers! It's week 5 in the second-grade at Lih-Jen International School, and we've been up to some exciting adventures. This week, we've been busy reviewing for a big test, exploring the fascinating world of light and shadows, enjoying math competitions, visiting the Puppetry Art Center of Taipei, and diving into some important grammar and writing concepts. Let's dive into the fun we've had!
Reviewing for the Big Test
As responsible second graders, we know the importance of preparation, and this week was all about getting ready for a big test. We worked hard, reviewed our lessons, and practiced our skills in various subjects. It's essential to make sure we're well-prepared for challenges that come our way!
A Visit to the Puppetry Art Center of Taipei
What's better than learning through art and creativity? We had a fantastic time visiting the Puppetry Art Center of Taipei. There, we got to see some incredible puppetry performances that left us in awe. Puppets came to life right before our eyes, and we were inspired by the artists' skill and creativity. Learning about different forms of art is always a memorable experience! We even apply some of our recent acquired knowledge of light and shadows to the puppetry show.
Exploring Light and Shadows
In our science class, we delved into the captivating world of light and shadows. We wanted to understand how light helps us see things around us. Through fun experiments and demonstrations, we discovered that without light entering our eyes, we couldn't see anything at all! It was like a magical journey into the science of vision.
Math Competitions for Fun
Math can be exciting, especially when it's a friendly competition! We challenged ourselves with fun math competitions that tested our mathematical skills. Whether it was solving puzzles or competing against our classmates, it was a great way to improve our math abilities while having a blast.
Grammar Review
In our language arts lessons, we also took time to review some important grammar concepts. We learned about different types of sentences, including questions (like "How are you today?"), imperatives (like "Please pass me the book."), and statements (like "I love to read"). Understanding these sentence types helps us become better writers and communicators.
We also tackled singular and plural forms of words, including irregular plurals. For instance, we explored how "cat" becomes "cats," but "child" becomes "children." It's fascinating how words can change when there's more than one of something!
We practiced making both negative and positive statements, using words like "no" to create negatives (e.g., "No, I don't want ice cream.") and positive words to create affirmatives (e.g., "Yes, I love pizza!"). These skills help us express our thoughts clearly.
Writing and Reading
In the world of writing and reading, we explored the concept of the paragraph. We discovered that paragraphs help us organize our ideas and make our writing easier to understand. This skill will come in handy as we continue to grow as writers.
We also learned about the sequence of events. This means putting things in order, like telling a story from beginning to end. Understanding the sequence of events helps us write and comprehend stories better. We also explore the concepts of Author, Title, Character and Settings.
In conclusion, week 5 in our second-grade section at Lih-Jen International School has been full of exciting adventures, valuable learning experiences, and important grammar and writing lessons. We've reviewed for our big test, enjoyed a trip to the Puppetry Art Center of Taipei, explored the science of light and shadows, had fun with math competitions, and improved our language arts skills.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue our journey through second grade, discovering new things every day. Thank you for joining us on our learning adventure!
